ON THIS DAY, JANUARY 4

On this day in 1643, Isaac Newton was born.

He once said, “If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants.”

And another time, "I can calculate the motion of heavenly bodies, but not the madness of people."

On this day in 1960, Albert Camus died in a car accident at the age of 46.

"Real generosity toward the future lies in giving all to the present."

-Albert Camus, The Rebel

On this day in 1961, Erwin Shrodinger died of tuberculosis at the age of 73.

On this day in 1965, TS Eliot died at the age of 77.

Today, I am thinking again about Being Visible.

On this day in 2021, I posted a photo of myself with my hair covering my face, with the caption "not feel like showing up today." (My hair looked kind of awesome though.) It might be my favourite in the series.

Today, I had an epically good hair day. Like, hair has never looked this good. You'll have to take my word for it, because I didn't leave my house and nobody else has seen it. I tried to capture it in a photograph, to help you get a general idea, but it really doesn't do it justice, much like last night's photo of the moon. Sometimes something like hair just sings a heartbreaking song about how beautiful life is, and you can try to convey the breathless wonder of being alive through words and photos and historical ephemera, but it is all just pointing towards the uncontainable truth that is subjective experience.

The Moon is nearly Full.

The Sun is at 14° Capricorn.

The enclosing clouds deterred me.
